Focus on {Bathrooms}

Let’s talk bathrooms! Like basements, bathrooms are FUN projects for us because they are usually a complete renovation or we are starting from scratch.  When most people update a bathroom, they update the entire space meaning the space will be completely coordinated at one time.  Optimal situation for a designer!

Everyone knows that outdated bathrooms and kitchens are the areas in a home that need the most attention.  One of our favorite bathrooms was a master bathroom renovation in an older home. This family home was ready for some updates and after successfully raising two kids, the couple that lives here decided to TREAT themselves to a master bathroom revamp!

We gutted the bathroom down to the studs and created a modern, yet classic, space.  The gorgeous marble tile in different shapes and sizes on the floors and shower surround complemented a bank of beautiful gray washed cabinets.  The cabinets also brought in some much needed warmth and, of course, storage. We finished out the space with a free standing tub and brought in more light by adding extra windows along the back wall.  We also livened up the space with a colorful abstract art piece the couple loved. They envisioned a relaxing and calm bathroom - mission ACCOMPLISHED!

Bathrooms are a great place to play with hard materials.  Design in a bathroom is basically ALL about the hard materials!  We love the moody, earthy materials we put into this guest bathroom.  The line of skinny black tile to accentuate the shower shelf and framing the outside of the shower paired with a black matte shower head and handles create DRAMA in a small space.  The darker greige tile and river rock complete the look.  We carried the black accents to the vanity area as well.

A unique vanity can MAKE a bathroom!  This basement bathroom could have been basic, but the unique vanity gave the space an industrial vibe that was anything but boring.  From there, we took the industrial theme and ran with it by adding coordinating light fixtures, mirrors, shelves, simple subway tile and a penny tile floor.

Sometimes though, simple is BEST.  A little powder room off a main entrance could easily be forgotten.  The script sign outside the door makes sure it’s not while also adding a touch of whimsy!  Once inside, the little touches such as the reclaimed shutter used as a window treatment and the hanging mirror and gold accents make the space MORE than expected. The overall effect is simple, clean, but oh so cute!

You can always find ways to make your bathroom a little more interesting!  Instead of a traditional towel rack, we used a paint dipped wooden ladder.

We showed you these two bathrooms previously, but couldn’t leave them out of a post dedicated to bathrooms!  The dark navy painted shiplap is a true crowdpleaser in the first bathroom.  The fabulous art print and funky tile make the second bathroom one of a kind.

That’s a wrap on previous bathrooms! In the coming months we have a few projects coming up that will include bathrooms sure to make you SWOON!
